US Botanical Garden – Washington DCUS Botanical Garden Childrens Garden

Head to the National Mall and enjoy an afternoon at the US Botanical Garden.  This gem near the Capitol Building includes an outdoor Children’s Garden and plenty of room to meander over bridges and through secret gardens right in the middle of the city.

The Maryland side of Great Falls offers boardwalks over the falls, canal rides, and the famous Billygoat Trail if your family is feeling adventurous.  Great Falls is one of the most enjoyable places in the Washington DC area to spend the day outdoors.

Spend some time outside in Baltimore before heading to the Aquarium or other indoor attractions in the Inner Harbor.  Patterson Park has great views of the city, multiple playgrounds, trails, and unique features such as the Pagoda.

Cunningham Falls State Park – Thurmont, MDcunningham

With a short hike to the falls and a sandy beach on the Lake, Cunningham Falls makes a great day trip for families in the Washington DC area.

Watkins Regional Park – Upper Marlboro, MDWatkins Regional Park

Watkins Regional Park offers plenty of activities for kids on a sunny day.  When the weather is warm check out the old-fashioned carousel, miniature train ride, mini-golf, petting farm, and playground.

Our closest area amusement park, Six Flags offers a water park for when the weather is very warm and options for even the younger children with ride offerings for kids 36″ or more.

With a great lazy river and multiple water slides, Chesapeake Beach Waterpark is a can’t miss attraction in Calvert County.  Close by North Beach also offers a Pirate Playground on the beach.

The kids need to be at least 10 years of age to participate so put this one in your file if the kids are still a little younger.   Go Ape offers zip lines, bridge crossings, rope ladders and tarzan swings sure to please any kids entering the “tween” years.
