Top 5 things to do with the kids this week: January 10, 2016

  1. indoor activities with kids storytime

    Storytime

When looking for indoor kids activities the library is a great resource.  The Anne Arundel County Public Libraries offer storytime for toddlers and preschoolers almost every day of the week usually around mid-morning.  Check out their website for individual branch storytime schedules.  While you are at the library make sure to check out one of the Best Children’s Books of 2015.  Also, check out the special book club for elementary aged students at the Annapolis branch which includes book discussions, crafts and games.  The book club will meet this Tuesday, January 12th at 5pm and will feature the book How to Train Your Dragon.  If you have some shopping to do around the Harbor Center Barnes and Noble offers storytime on Wednesday and Saturday at 11am and will feature Pete the Cat: I Love my White Shoes.

  2. North Arundel Aquatic Center

    Swimming

We don’t often think of swimming when it’s time to head inside for fun kids activities but the kids will love the idea of donning a bathing suit in the middle of winter.  Anne Arundel County offers two great public pools.  The Arundel Olympic Swim Center is located off of Riva Road right next to Annapolis High School.  Open swim is available everyday and preschool swimming lessons are available weekday and weekend mornings.  The North Arundel Aquatic Center located off of Crain Highway in Millersville will really get the kids excited with an indoor water park. The full water park is open on Saturdays and Sundays starting at 11am and they offer a preschool swim on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays with the smaller water slide available.

  3. Climbzone USA

    Road Trip: Climbzone USA

This is an indoor play area taken to the next level.  If you are looking for a unique indoor activity with the kids this is it.  Kids can climb up a model of Mount Rushmore, the Empire State Building and our favorite – a pirate ship!  Located in Laurel, Climbzone is an easy drive from the Annapolis area and sure to burn up pent-up energy on a cold winter day.  Check out this post by Family Fun in Maryland and Beyond for an honest review before you go.

  4. Lego

    Fun with Legos

Encourage your little engineer with a visit to Naptown Bricks.  They offer open play Monday-Friday from 10am-2pm.  If you need some time for yourself they will watch the kids and entertain them with Lego’s, costumes, and a fun treehouse play area.  Naptown Bricks is located on 450 next to the Annapolis Mall and Best Buy.

  5. Kids cooking

    Kids Cooking Club

Take the kids to Whole Foods on Tuesday, January 12th from 11am-11:45am for a fun cooking class followed by a store tour and samples.  This week they will be making “Bears in a Boat”.  The cost is a reasonable $5 per person,

We hope you have found some great indoor kids activities to keep those kids busy this week.  Don’t forget to check us out when the weather warms up and you are ready to play outside!
