Snowzilla!

With up to 29 inches of snow piled up outside and Monday and Tuesday off of school this promises to be a tricky week to entertain the kids.  We have some great ideas to get you through the aftermath of Snowzilla and keep you off the roads at the beginning of the week.  Surprise, surprise the pirate theme abounds!

  1. 20 Pirate Activities for kids

If you follow our blog than your kids love pirates.  The Sea Gypsy is buried in snow so a Pirate Adventure is not in the cards but we have plenty of ideas for indoor activities that you can do at home to celebrate your love of pirates.  Check out our Post: 20 Pirate Activities for Kids.  Arts and crafts, an indoor pirate ship made out of cardboard, movie recommendations and even a pirate treasure hunt in the snow!

  2. Celebrate Snowzilla and play in the snow

pirate snowmanFollow up those indoor pirate activities by heading outside to build a pirate snowman or a pirate fort in the snow!  The sun is supposed to return on Sunday and it will take a while for the plows to dig us out of snowzilla – leaving plenty of time to get creative in the snow and stay off the roads as long as you can.  Check out our Pinterest board for some great ideas for a pirate themed snowman or snow fort.  Also check out this article: How to build an amazing snow fort for some quick tips.

  3. Go Sledding

sleddingLast week we our road trip recommendation was to go snowtubing or skiing but thanks to Snowzilla you can get plenty of sledding in right here at home.  Check out the best places for sledding in Annapolis and Anne Arundel County.

  4. Pirate Camp

piratecampIf you have kids in 1st-6th grade sign them up for pirate camp at the Annapolis Maritime Museum.  Pirate Camp is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday from 9am-4pm.  Kids will build a buccaneer ship, make a pirate fort, find hidden treasure and learn about real Chesapeake Bay pirates.  With closures that may still linger from the storm make sure to give them a call to confirm Pirate Camp is still on this week.

  5. Road Trip: The Poconos

Dog Sledding PoconosWe’re hoping by the end of the week the roads should be cleared and you may want to get out of town!  A road trip is sure to cure the winter blues.   If you want to really play in the snow plan a last minute getaway to the Poconos.    Stay at the Camelback Mountain Resort for skiing and an indoor waterpark.  Check out the different options for ski and snow activities and family fun in the Pocono Mountains.
